I am wondering if anyone who is a leaseholder of a flat in Bedford
Square has recently renewed their lease as I am wanting to do this. I
am interested in any tips, pitfalls and what sort of costs to expect.
Maybe this request could be put in the FOBS e.letter?
Many Thanks

Brighton pub ordered to stop outside smokers
Written by AdministratorA pub has been ordered to bring smokers back inside to stop noise nuisance.
The Lion and Lobster, in Sillwood Street, Brighton, has been sending people to the pavement outside to smoke after 11pm since a ban was put on late-night use of a roof terrace in the middle of the building last August.

Personal objection -Hello,
With reference to your comments on leaving the lights on all night, the lighting scheme has been granted planning permission and in order to comply with Secure By Design recommendations will be lit throughout the night. This should not cause any adverse affect to local residents as the Bandstand is not ‘floodlit’. Instead the lighting scheme has been sensitively designed to silhouette the intricate detail of the Bandstand, not light the area around it.
I hope that this helps to clarify the issues raised.
Kind regards
Toni Manuel

BRIGHTON BANDSTAND RE-OPENS FRIDAY JULY 24!
Written by http://brightonbandstand.org.ukBRIGHTON BANDSTAND RE-OPENS FRIDAY JULY 24!
After decades of neglect, the historic Grade II listed Bandstand will finally re-open fully-restored to its former glory on July 24 at 8pm.
Local bands lined up for the launch celebrations include Patcham Silver Band, Brighton Youth Orchestra and Brighton indie-band Gloria Cycles and the opening will conclude with a spectacular floodlighting of the building for the first time.
The £850,000 restoration took just 10 months and was completed ahead of schedule. The iron work, including eight 1.2 tonne pillars and the ornate linking spandrels, has been fully restored and now freshly painted in its original 1880s colour scheme. With the copper roof complete and the original bridge linking the bandstand to the prom back in place, the bandstand is back and ready for business.
Underneath the bandstand is a new café run by local restaurant group La Fourchette. Open from 8am – 10pm every day, the menu will feature light meals and snacks with a French flavour, including breakfast, baguettes, salads, oysters and pastries.
The areas around the bandstand are being landscaped and will include seating for the café.
Bands will play on the bandstand most Sundays during the summer.
Do you have two evenings free in August? Want to help out with a bat survey? Ideally you will have a bat detector but if not, don’t worry, we can lend you one.
What’s the survey about?
· We are trying to find out more about bats in urban areas.
· We need surveyors to walk a survey route from their house and record the numbers of bats they hear. The survey itself takes about 45 minutes and needs to take place just before sunset.
· You don’t have to identify individual bat species.
The training session on Wednesday 22nd of July at 8pm at the Booth Museum in
Dyke Road. I will explain the survey method, we can practise listening for
bats and I will give you survey forms and detectors. We can go for a walk
after to see if we can hear anything (I've heard bats in the street trees on
Dyke Road). We should finish by 10pm at the latest.
The survey is pretty simple and involves walking a transect route and
listening for bats on two evenings in August. You don't have to identify
species.
There will be a short training session on Wed 22 July in the evening at the Booth Museum for anyone who wants to take part.
This survey is a repeat of one that took place in 2007- all previous surveyors are welcome to take part again!
