20mph in Bedford Square?

The Environment and Community Safety Overview and Scrutiny Committee at Brighton & Hove City Council has set up a Scrutiny Panel to conduct a ‘Speed Reduction Review: An investigation into 20 mph speed limits/zones’.

As part of the scrutiny process the panel is keen to canvas opinion from a wide range of groups and organisations about 20 mph speed limits and 20 mph zones. In particular, the panel would like to hear the views of Neighbourhood Forums about the impact of possible speed reduction initiatives in their area.

Please could you contact me as soon as possible, but by no later than the 31 December if you would like to provide information and evidence for the scrutiny panel to consider.

Many thanks,

Libby Young

council stand on dog ban

I understand that you have been in touch with Stephanie Williams, Animal Welfare Officer regarding changing the status of Bedford Square to become dog friendly.

Bedford Square has historically been a dog exclusion area, and when the city created dog control orders that replaced the dog bylaws in January 2009, the historic exclusion status of the square was maintained.

The new dog scheme was resolved by full Council, following an open, public Cabinet Members Meeting and Cabinet route for decision making.

During the consultation process in 2007 and 2008, there was intense media and citizen interest, including petitions. There were two consultations, with the second one dealing with the recommendations and outcomes of the first one.

NH Watch Alert - bogus callers

If you, or anyone you know, has been subject to cold callers over the last few days please make contact with Sussex Police on the non emergency telephone number 0845 60 70 999. You may have been approached by people offering to carry out work on your roof, driveway, fencing, trees or similar at your home address or you may have received a visit from someone stating they are from a utilities company but  they did not have identification or you felt uneasy about them.

If you have been approached in a manner similar to the examples above and have refused, or accepted, their services please let us know. We will ask about dates and times of incidents and for descriptions of the people involved. If you have paid for work and it has not been carried out please still contact us. There is no shame in having believed what these people say; they are very convincing liars.admin
